How to become mentally powerful during a difficult workout

“having the ability and bravery to push through your fears”

I have been working out for the past 5 years and have learned way more about it than any other subject that I have ever learned.

By far the hardest part of training your body is telling your body that you can push further, regardless of what your brain is telling you.

This is where mental strength comes in. The difference between people who get what they want from life compared to those who have little to no mental strength is incredibly large.

If you want to learn how to increase your mental strength during the toughest physical task you will do all day long, working out, then pay attention to the rest of this article.

There are 3 main ways that I have found to push yourself through a tough set, rep, or mental block while you are training and working your body through strenuous exercises.

Music

This has been the most powerful agitator of my instinct to stop and quit my current workout.

The reason for this is that music and, more specifically, music that enrages your system and lights your adrenaline on fire, encourages you to push much further into your workout than without it.

If you want, I can send you a personal favorite playlist of mine that I use whenever I had a really long day at work and I do not want to workout, but I know I need to. Just message me on Instagram, @lifelessons5537, and I will get right back to you with those songs!

Another huge part of music, and why it works so well, is because if you choose the right songs, you can put yourself into another person’s shoes for a few minutes and fuel your fury through them and into the weights, ground, or bar, whatever your workout is for that day.

A large part of igniting the right neurons in your brain from the music you will be listening to while you are pushing through the next session filled with sweat and tears is choosing the right headphones.

I absolutely love and advocate for Jaybird headphones. I have been using their X3’s for over 3 years and they seem to be indestructible, not even mentioning how amazing the quality is. I can barely hear the outside world even when my music is not blasting through these monsters, but when the music is going, the sound quality is out of this world. Jaybird has released multiple products is the years since releasing these headphones, but that only makes the quality cheaper for you. On their website, they cost about $75 on Amazon, but there are many refurbished versions for around $35!!!

If you want to boost how much you are currently getting out of your workouts, you cannot go wrong with an amazing pair of headphones specifically designed for working out and sweat and tears and everything that goes with it, all for under the price of a decent pair of shoes.

The 40% Rule

This has become a kind of meme, ever since David Goggins popularized this statement a few years ago, making it well known that the human body can do much more than we give it credit for.

The reason I bring this up is because if you are really struggling with a rep, set, or exhaustion, I want you to think about all the people that came before you.

All the people that have less than you, all the people that have been less grateful than you.

This is not meant to lecture you on the way of the world. No. This is about pushing through your fears and recognizing that your fears are nothing compared to some other people.

This is where the 40% rule comes in.

If people can come from poverty and become a billionaire, become happy, then what is it to ask you to push yourself further than where you think you can go? How much is it to ask you to go one more rep, one more set, round, mile?

I am not asking anyone of you to go to 100%, but the knowledge that everyone has that power should allow you to get over your insecurity of being afraid to fail and get to 45, 50% consistently.

You can do that! Everybody can. You just have to be willing to put your ego on a shelf for a minute or two and pushing through

Confidence

Do you honestly believe that if you constantly push yourself past your perceived limit, that 40% threshold, jamming out with insane beats, enraging lyrics, and energetic bass drops, you will see no change outside of the gym?

This is the entire point!

The perception of the outside world is something everyone tells you to stop caring about, to not worry about what they think, to only be focused on yourself.

The truth is, this is something nobody ever truly beats. We can, however, learn to be constantly winning that our wins are stronger and keep our happiness and drive above those who have no inner desire to become great.

This is called confidence, having the ability and bravery to push through your fears and knowing that, in those moments when it feels like your world is crumbling to pieces, that you can push through tough moments in a way that nobody else can.

Do you know where this comes from? Training your body, otherwise called working out.

The world is centered around hate.

This is because not enough people push their limits, and then they get mad when others around them start winning because they were brave enough to push through their self-perceived limits.

This is how to get rid of hatred. For yourself. For your friends. For successful people around you.

Go to the gym. Go for a walk. Do some yoga. Do some HIIT training. Do some pushups. Play some basketball.

It is so easy that nobody wants to believe that it can be so easy.

This is the mental edge that you will have on people if you put your energy into training your body just 3 times a week.

Growth beyond your wildest dreams. Mentally. Physically. Even emotionally.

So, grab some headphones, work beyond where you think you can, and start winning on an unprecedented level that other people will want to acquire themselves.

This is my dream. That all of you will take my advice and change for the better. The funny part is, nobody understands how easy and amazing it is. Nobody will ever understand until they realize just how easy life is when you become mentally strong. Working out is the key to a mentally strong mind. Why haven’t you started yet?
